“The future of the world is in your classroom today!”
Ivan Welton Fitzwater
In the recent report about the Class of 2030, the findings of Microsoft and McKinsey and Co. stated that, “a paradigm shift for the class of 2030 By the time today’s kindergartners enter the workforce, activities will substantially change across most occupations and will increasingly require the application of expertise and creative problem solving, as well as collaboration, management, and the development of people.” The report also highlights the importance of social, emotional and relational intelligence as a vital skillset for the future generations.
The NEA created “An Educators Guide to the Four C’s of Education” to outline the importance of: 1) Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, 2) Communication, 3) Collaboration and 4) Creativity and Innovation.
We are thrilled that the I.D.E.A. Framework can be used to facilitate the use and development of the skills outlined in both reports. We have worked with multiple school districts and numerous students over the past 5 years and we are pleased to see how the I.D.E.A. Framework can be used to prepare our students to lead our future!
How do we challenge our students with real opportunities?
It is important to explore all possibilities for their future. There is a lot of brilliance in their young minds. We are able to provide them a platform through our “I-DEA Framework”.
I- inspiration
D- delegation
E- execution
A- accountability
What is the inspiration behind the idea? Once they have identified a problem, their idea should provide a solution. Once they understand their solution, they will need to determine who is part of the delegation working with them. Each team member will have an assigned role. This important step teaches teamwork, a skill that will never fail our young students throughout their lives. The next step of the process is the execution phase. How can our students work with their teams to create and sell the idea? The final step is accountability. This step keeps everyone on task and will help determine if the idea works and should be continued.
This IDEA concept allows the team to determine what improvements could be made and refine the process or if the idea should no longer be pursued.
Curriculum Design
In designing a curriculum, for a topic in a particular unit, a full program, after-school camp or an entire learning system, you are essentially planning an intellectual 'journey' for your students - a series of experiences that will result in them learning what you intend them to learn. Our IDEA journey captures and abundance of outcomes from personal discovery, to determining areas of personal interest, teamwork development, emotional and social growth, discipline, creativity and innovation. Essentially what every student is craving and every educational system is search for to fulfill the needs of our future generations - our IDEA framework provides! The IDEA Framework also helps educators follow the needs of the Common Core requirements.
